AAC Week 10 Teleconference: HC Randy Edsall

OPENING STATEMENT:

“We’re just looking forward to trying to get better again this week. We know we have an outstanding opponent in USF coming up here on Saturday. They are a very talented and well-coached team. We need to make sure we continue to work hard this week, prepare, clean up the things we need to and just be ready to go.”

HOW DOES YOUR EXPERIENCE ALLOW YOU TO MAINTAIN CONFIDENCE AFTER A LOSS LIKE MISSOURI?:

“Maybe I make it too simple, as you get older, maybe you look at things a little differently, but that game is over with. You need to have a short memory and we didn’t play as well as we needed to play. You just move on, our guys have made improvements in certain areas. The biggest thing for us is we need to be more consistent. If we can play consistently well for 60-minutes, then we give ourselves the opportunity. I think our guys understand that if we don’t play well for the entire game, you allow yourself to not do the things you need to do in order to get a win. I think they always have confidence, but for some of those guys, they forgot that they’re just going out there and playing. Some of them thought about certain things probably, especially the young guys, as young guys do and they will gain knowledge and experience from that last week and put that one behind you. Now you go study this team, prepare for this team and go out and play. If you’re a competitor, you’re going to have confidence. If you’re not going to have confidence in who you are and what you’re a part of, then you shouldn’t be doing it.”

CHARLIE STRONG COMES TO USF FROM TEXAS, HOW DIFFICULT IS IT TO GET PHILOSOPHY EMBEDDED IN YEAR ONE?:

“I think some of that has to do with the scheme that you are playing, it might be the same scheme they were playing and you can adapt to that. Some of it has to do with the talent that is there, but Charlie [Strong] has done a nice job.”

WR ANTHONY MILLER OF MEMPHIS HAD A GREAT GAME AGAINST YOU GUYS & THAT’S CONTINUED, WHAT MAKES HIM SUCH A GREAT RECEIVER DESPITE NOT HAVE THE BEST SIZE OR SPEED?:

“He’s a guy that understands exactly what they are doing, understands how to get open, understands defense and also how to get off the line of scrimmage. You can tell that he has a real good feel for the game and sometimes you’re really good receivers maybe aren’t the fastest, but they are knowledgeable about their craft, they know exactly how to set guys up, how to find those open spots and how to create separation by their movements coming off the line.”
