AAC Teleconference Week 6: HC Randy Edsall Previews Temple

OPENING STATEMENT:

“The thoughts against Memphis, it’s pretty hard to be able to win the game, especially in the first quarter we were right there and up until 3 minutes left in the second quarter it was 21-21, but some things happened that didn’t go our way, fell behind and just weren’t able to do anything at all in the second half. When you only have the ball for 4:41 in the second quarter, 4:48 in the third quarter and 4:34 in the fourth quarter, it’s pretty hard to win. We’re a team that’s a little bit different this year in terms of what we’re doing. Offensively we play fast, we scored some long touchdowns and then if we don’t possess and move the ball it makes it tough because we are working to make our defense better. When we go three-and-out it makes it tough. On third down, we can’t let the opponent go 15-of-23 on 3rd and 4th down and you can’t be just 3-of-14 and when you do that, those are the things that lead to what transpired on Friday night. Now we are back to normal weeks’ [with playing on Saturday’s] and that will be good. We have another challenge again this week against a really fine, fast and athletic football team in Temple so we just need to go back to practice this week, continue to work to get better and as I said last week, we need to play all sixty minutes. Right now, we haven’t been able to do that and when you don’t, you don’t give yourself much of a chance to win. You need to play consistent for all sixty minutes and we haven’t been able to do that.”

LUKE CARREZOLA HAS JUST SEVEN TACKLES THIS YEAR, LOOKED LIKE HE GOT BANGED UP A LITTLE THE OTHER DAY, HOW HAS HE PLAYED THIS YEAR?:

“Luke just tore some scar tissue that he had in the shoulder he had operated on, he should be fine. He’s a member of our leadership council, great kid, works hard and wants to do well. He’s making progress playing in a new system and scheme and I really appreciate what he’s doing.”

S MARSHE’ TERRY IS ANOTHER GUY FROM THIS AREA, HAS HE HAD A PRETTY GOOD YEAR?:

“The guys are improving, but again they aren’t improving as fast as I’d like them too, but they are working and trying to do the things we are asking them to do. Just working to try to get better each and every day.”

WHAT’S IMPRESSED YOU ABOUT TEMPLE THIS PAST WEEK AND THROUGHOUT THE SEASON?:

“I see a defense that’s physical, that run. Offensively they spread you out. They are pretty much like everyone else in this league offensively by using different personnel combinations to try to confuse you and do the things they need to do. You can see that they are well coached and they played very, very well last week. They look to be gaining more confidence in the schemes that they are playing with the new coaching staff.”
